Global associations

EuroGeographics is also active at the global level, working with a number of international groups and, particularly through its members, involved in a number of professional associations.

GSDI Cookbook

ISCGM - the International Steering Committee on Global Mapping was established to create Global Map, a 1:1 Million scale dataset. EuroGeogrpahics is a member of the steering committee and a contributing partner (through EuroGlobalMap) to the Global Map project

United Nations - EuroGeographics is working with the UN on its SALB (Administrative Boundaries) project and contributes to its Geographic Information Working Group (UNGIWG).

  • UNCS - United Nations Cartograhpic Section
  • UN Commission on Human Settlements (Habitat) which seeks to promote socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements development and the achievement of adquate shelter for all
  • UNECE - United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. Set up in 1947, this body aims to encourage greater economic cooperation among its member states. It focuses on economic analysis, environment and human settlements, statistics, sustainable energy, trade, industry and enterprise development, timber and transport.

FIG - International Federation of Surveyors. There are a number of groups dealing with different aspects of surveying and mapping. Those most relevant to EuroGeographics and its members are:

• Commission 3 – Spatial Information Management

• Commission 4 – Hydrography

• Commission 5 – Positioning and Measurement

• Commission 7 – Cadastre & Land Management

During the 2010 FIG Congress in Sydney Australia a Forum took place for the Director Generals of National Mapping, Cadastre and Land Registry organisations. The minutes and presentations are available to our members.

IAG - International Association of Geodesy is a scientific organisation in the field of geodesy. It promotes scientific cooperation and research in geodesy on a global scale. EuroGeographics woks most closely with EUREF, on of its sub-commissions.

ICA - International Cartography Association aims to promote the discipline and profession of cartography across the world.
