Euromapfinder EMF
MEGRIN's existing metadata service, GDDD, was developed using
a more sophisticated technological architecture that will
provide efficiency improvements for the supply of metadata.
Enhancements within this project include:
Multilingual interface allowing querying and access
to metadata in over 20 European countries.
Use of profiles and keywords to facilitate a distributed
network.
Dynamic creation of web pages.
High resolution metadata - from national to map-sheet
level.
Wider spectrum of GI products - including aerial photographs,
paper maps, etc - and related sectors, geology, etc.
Index maps - providing a graphic and easily understood
representation of various types of GI available throughout
Europe.
Sample data visualisation and downloading.
Raising awareness of data availability and applicability.
Unfortunately, the site is no longer available.
Prototype e-commerce model
The prototype model developed within this project demonstrated
the next step - after finding out about the data, users can
then pay for and be supplied with the data as part of an on-line
transaction. A working model has been developed and demonstrated.
Although limited in extent, it demonstrates on-line delivery
of data by e-commerce from at least 2 distributed databases.
A Metadata Internet Server allows users to select a geographical
area and to order all related data.
Associated Services
La Clef has developed a range of associated services such
as co-ordinate transformations and format conversion that
are incorporated into the new EMF.
Documents
During the project, a range of issues were investigated. The
findings of the work are made public through a series of documents
