The project had the following main objectives:
• investigate the conditions necessary for on-line supply of data from National Mapping Agencies, particularly copyright, security of data, and supply terms and conditions.

• make improvements to the current GDDD. These improvements will include the introduction of a multi-lingual interface and the use of profiles and keywords to facilitate searching.

• provide high resolution metadata (map-sheet level), index maps, sample data and prototype services.

• provide metadata for complementary GI datasets and to link the MEGRIN metadata service with another related metadata service - that of geological surveys.

• create a prototype system to demonstrate the on-line delivery of data by e-commerce from two distributed databases.
