The State Boundaries of Europe (SBE) vision and long term goal is to compile a multipurpose State Boundaries of Europe Dataset, meant to be the “definitive” description of the national boundaries of European countries.

The State Boundaries of Europe (SBE) project aims at providing and maintaining:

• the administrative and legal definition of state boundaries, based on boundary Treaties,
• their precise geometric description expressed in ETRS89 coordinates of boundary points, marks and lines.

Such a State Boundaries of Europe Dataset, is foreseen to be a critical tool for cross-border edge-matching of (national) Reference Information, thus a significant contribution to European interoperability, and to INSPIRE.
