Objectives:
The EuroGlobalMap project has three main aims:
- To create a pan-European digital data base and mechanisms
for its maintenance. Project adds value to the work already
done at the national level in almost 40 European countries,
by harmonising the national datasets into one harmonised
and seamless pan-European database.
- To create common licensing and pricing policies to this
European wide data. This will take into account national
policies, and feedback from users and from the private sector
partners of the European National Mapping Agencies (NMAs).
The result will be a first step in harmonising such policies
on a continent wide basis, and an easier access to geographic
information at the million scale within the great Europe.
An Internet service will add to the later dimension.
- To promote technological know how through out the great
Europe, particularly in candidate countries. This model
of cooperation between the public sector organisations can
also be used as a best practice for other kinds of cooperation
in Europe. Further, the EuroGlobalMap product will be multilingual
in that all geographical names will be portrayed using both
in the country official language and an English transliteration.
Dataset
EuroGlobalMap follows ArcInfo layer structure and topological
rules. All layers are in ArcInfo vector format. Features saved
to the layers are points, nodes, lines and areas (polygons).
