EuroBoundaryMap v2.0
A new updated dataset is now available (31 March 2008)
This version includes administrative data of 39 European countries (in 35 datasets) updated according to the reference date(s) 1 January 2007 (2006). The product specification has been improved regarding user requirements.
EuroBoundaryMap v2.0 is a seamless and harmonised structured digital geographic reference database at the scale 1:100 000 containing the geometry, names and codes of administrative and statistical units, derived from source data provided and continuously updated by the National Mapping and Cadastral Agencies (NMCAs), members of EuroGeographics. It offers a linkage to corresponding statistical LAU2- and NUTS-codes for all local administrative units of EU27.

The next update, EuroBoundaryMap v3.0 referring to January 2008 can be
expected in January 2009.

EuroBoundaryMap v2.0 offers

Geometry of all European administrative and statistical units from most detailed local level to the country level

Names (Unicode-UTF8 and ASCII) and unique hierarchical structured codes (UIDs) of all administrative units on each national administrative level
- Unified coding system for all the administrative levels including also names of different national national levels and the relation between them

Linkage to corresponding statistical LAU2- and NUTS codes for all local administrative units of EU27
- Geometry of each national administrative level (USE-regions) and the derived national NUTS1-, NUTS2- and NUTS3-regions for EU27

Changes from EuroBoundaryMap v1.0 to v2.0
- EuroBoundaryMap v2.0 is produced by using ArcGISv9.1/ArcGISv9.2 software and Geodatabase structure
- Product Specification is platform independent
- Changes of attribute structure according to the requirements of EC/Eurostat
- Updated metadata for the EBM v2.0 product and for all national contributions based on ISO 19115
- Product documentation (Technical Guide, User Guide) containing the catalogue of features and attributes, data model (UML schema), statements on accuracy and quality
- Documents desribing the complete national administrative hierarchies and the derived structure of unique SHN code as well as the USE- and NUTS-regions
- Additionally to the provision of individual countries a seamless FullEurope version is available now, both including the derived USE-regions (direct access to each USE level for all countries) and all NUTS-regions for EU27
- All names of administrative units and levels are incorporated into EBM v2.0 with its correct national spelling (Unicode).
Coordinates
Geographical in degrees (longitude, latitude) with decimal fraction and based on the ETRS 89 spatial reference system.
Quality and standards
The source data of EuroBoundaryMap v2.0 is of the best available resolution and semantic quality. The quality of product has been checked according to ISO 19113 standard to meet the required product specification. The data product specification is harmonised with other EuroGeographics products. The metadata of EuroBoundaryMap v2.0 and all national contributions is based on the ISO 19115 standard.

Regions are additional feature classes, displaying units on upper levels of each national administrative hierarchy.
USE-regions are included in EuroBoundaryMap v2.0 for all units on higher administrative levels as well as the NUTS-regions for EU27, as defined by Eurostat.

Delivery format
EuroBoundaryMap v2.0 can be delivered as a seamless FullEurope version in addition to the country by country version. As a standard EBM is supplied in ESRI GeoDatabase formats (ArcGIS 9.1 Personal GDB, ArcGIS 9.2 File GDB) and it is also available in Shape- and MapInfo's mif/mid-formats.
