Role/mission |
. to carry out, on the national territory, the operations required for the implantation and maintenance of a geodetic network and a precise levelling network, for the aerial photographic coverage and for the production and revision of topographic base maps and derived maps.
. to carry out operations concerning aerial and spatial remote sensing for surveying purposes, the digitisation of cartographic data and the production of thematic maps.
. to carry out general research corresponding to the activities mentioned in a)
and b) above.
. to produce, publish or distribute the corresponding documents in graphic, photographic or digital form.
. to manage the documentation linked with the activities defined above, in particular, that of the aerial photography documentation centre.
. to manage the activities of the Ècole nationale des sciences géographiques (national survey sciences college).
. to co-ordinate and inspect with the service du cadastre the survey operations undertaken by local and regional authorities and public services under the conditions defined by a general order of those same ministers. Excluded from the responsibilities of the Institute are operations of the triangulation and survey which compete with the production, revision and conservation of cadastral plans or which concern the physical determination of real estate.
. The institute can co-operate, by contract, with public bodies, local and regional authorities and public services, international organisations and foreign states or, if the services or operations are of general interest, with private organisations and persons. In order to facilitate the overseas operations, it may participate financially in other organisations.
. Operations carried out at the request of the Ministry of Defence must be given priority. The institute is
responsible for the technical training in surveying and mapping of the personnel responsible to that minister. |
