provision of basic geodata for the territory of the Federal
Republic of Germany,
. advice to the Federal Government in the fields of geodesy
and geo-information as well as
. representation of the interests of the Federal Government
at international level.In the field of Geodesy BKG is
the provider of planimetry, altimetry and gravimetry networks
of the Federal Republic of Germany. That service is based
on methods such as Very-Long-Baseline-Interferometry to
quasars (VLBI), Laser Ranging to Satellites (SLR) and
to the moon (LLR), Global Positioning System GPS and GLONASS.
BKG operates about 30 other GPS stations in Germany, Europe
and Antarctica, contributing to the international GPS
service for the definition of the global reference system
and position determinations. The German GPS Permanent
Stations Network GREF forms the connection to the satellite
positioning service SAPOS (reference system of the state
surveying and mapping agencies of Germany developed by
AdV).
. In the field of Geo-Information BKG provides in close
cooperation with the state survey authorities of Germany
(AdV) topographic basic data (vector and raster data sets)
and corresponding maps at different scales (equal and
smaller 1:200,000). The Geodata Centre of BKG supplies
harmonised geospatial basic data of the Authoritative
Topographic-Cartographic Information System (ATKIS®;
Amtliches Topographisch-Kartographisches Informationssystem)
at a national level. A metadata information system informs
users about the availability and quality of such data
as a central service on behalf of AdV.
. BKG contributes substantially to international cooperation
projects serving the set-up and maintenance of geographic
data bases at the European and global level. |
