Role/mission |
The scheduling and coordination of the cartographic and cadastral activities in order to fulfil the country's development needs has been, in the past, subject of jurisdiction of several Ministries and state services. However, due to the fact that this issue was not deled with effectively, and after long discussions and consideration, the Hellenic Mapping and Cadastral Organization (HEMCO) was founded by the law 1647 voted by the parliament in 1986.
HEMCO is a state organization, under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works, and it is governed by a seven member board, appointed by the Minister of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works, for a three year term, which could be renewed without any restriction.
Purpose:
• The drawing up and maintenance of a positive cadastre for Greece.
• The geodetic coverage and the mapping of the country.
• The enrollment and mapping of the natural resources.
• The creation of a land and environment data base. |
