	Role/mission	The Surveyor General of Poland performs the tasks defined in the Act 17 May 1989 - Geodetic and Cartographic Law, in particular: 1. supervises implementation of national policy in geodesy and cartography, 2. performs the function of a body of superior degree defined by the Code of Administration Procedures in relation to province geodetic and cartographic supervision inspectors, and also supervises their activities, 3. manages central geodetic and cartographic data resources and also makes avail of the means held by the Central Management Fund for Geodetic and Cartographic Data Resources, 4. establishes basic geodetic, gravimetric and magnetic systems (networks), 5. elaborates principles concerning technical and organisational preparations to set up a cadastre, and to cooperate in its establishing, 6. manages the national register of borders and territory of the Republic of Poland and its separate provinces, 7. keeps records of land information systems of national importance and cooperates with other government departments in establishing and managing geographic information systems, 8. cooperates with international, regional and bodies and offices in other countries, specialised in geodesy and cartography issues, 9. initiates scientific and research and development work concerning organisational and technical standards and also applying IT, photogrammetric and satellite methods in geodesy and cartography and also in the national land information system, 10. grants professional entitlements (licences) in geodesy and cartography, manages a register of authorised persons and cooperates with local governments and professional organisations of land surveyors and cartographers, 11. manages matters concerning protection of classified information in geodetic and cartographic activities, 12. elaborates recommendations concerning universal property taxation and supervises the course of its implementation, 13. cooperates with geodesy and cartography administration bodies at province level in performing: a. photogrammetric pictures of the country’s surface, b. topographic maps, c. thematic maps, d. photogrammetric elaborations, 14. manages matters related to geographic onomastics including the state register of geographic names, 15. draws up principles concerning consultations on situating planned land technical utilities systems.
