Arvo Kokkonen new Director General of NLS
Mr. Arvo Kokkonen, 56, has been selected as the new Director General of the National Land Survey of Finland (NLS). His new assignment started on 1 September 2012 when the current Director General Jarmo Ratia retired. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry nominated Kokkonen for the appointment and The Finnish Government appointed him.
”I think that my appointment shows that the current ways of working and suggestions of future directions for development at the NLS match those at the ministry,” says the NLS Director General Arvo Kokkonen. The Director General is appointed for seven years at a time.
A long career in surveying
Arvo Kokkonen has been the Deputy Director General of the NLS and he has spent nearly his entire career at the NLS.
In the 1980s Mr. Kokkonen spent five years as a real estate engineer in Haapajärvi and a year in Oulainen. During 2004–2006 he was a Surveyor Counsellor at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
Mr. Kokkonen is Master of Science in Engineering (Surveying) who lives in Vihti, north-west of Helsinki. He is married with three grown children. He is known as an enthusiastic hunter and also enjoys literature and music in his leisure time.
