EuroBoundaryMap v4.0

An updated geo database of European administrative and statistical units is now available.

This version includes data of 39 countries according to the reference date of 1 January 2009.

EuroBoundaryMap v4.0 is a seamless geo database at the scale 1:100 000. It contains geometry, names and codes of administrative and statistical units continuously updated by our members, the National Mapping and Cadastral Agencies (NMCAs) of Europe. It offers a linkage to the updated statistical LAU2- and NUTS-codes for all local administrative units of EU27

Content

EuroBoundaryMap v4.0 offers:

  • geometry of all European administrative and statistical units from the most detailed local level to country level
  • names (Unicode-UTF8 and ASCII) and unique hierarchical structured codes (UIDs) of all administrative units on each national administrative level
  • unified coding system for all the administrative levels including designations of different national levels and the relations between them
  • links to statistical LAU2- and NUTS codes (as published for 2009) for all local administrative units of EU27
  • geometry of each national administrative level (USE-regions) and the derived national NUTS1, NUTS2- and NUTS3-regions for EU27
  • Distinction between land and water areas of administrative units (for example coastal water or lakes)
Changes from EuroBoundaryMap v3.0 to v4.0
  • EuroBoundaryMap v4.0 is produced by using ArcGIS v9.3 and  the standard data format is ESRI File Geodatabase
  • Further adjustments of data according to specific requirements of EC/Eurostat as the two additional USE-regions for integration of Naseleni Mesta (Bulgaria) and Sogne (Denmark)
  • Updated metadata for the EBM v4.0 product according to ISO 19115, also considering the INSPIRE Metadata Implementing Rule and lineage-files and metadata for all national contributions based on ISO 19115
  • Product documentation (Specification,Technical Guide) containing the catalogue of features and attributes as well as the data model
  • Additional documents desribing the changes between v3.0 and v4.0 in more detail, the quality of EBM v4.0 as well as the results of matching between SHN codes and LAU2-codes
Coordinates

Geographical in degrees (longitude, latitude) with decimal fraction and based on the ETRS 89 spatial reference system.

Quality and standards

The Data Product Specification has been improved according to ISO 19131. The quality of EuroBoundaryMap v4.0 product has been checked according to ISO 19113 and the results are documented. The metadata of EuroBoundaryMap v4.0 and all national contributions is based on the ISO 19115 standard and the INSPIRE Metadata Implementing Rule.

Regions are additional feature classes, displaying units on all levels of each national administrative hierarchy.

USE-regions are included in EuroBoundaryMap v4.0 for all units at all administrative levels as well as the NUTS-regions for EU27, as published by Eurostat.

EuroBoundaryMap v4.0 enables you to geo-reference statistical data, and can also be used as a background to geo-referenced datasets.

Delivery format
EuroBoundaryMap v4.0 can be delivered as a seamless FullEurope version in addition to the country by country version. As a standard EBM is supplied in ESRI GeoDatabase formats (ArcGIS 9.2 File GDB) and it is also available in Shape- and MapInfo's mif/mid-formats.
